We are delighted to welcome you to Etchetoa, a friendly and warm gîte located on the GR 65, in the hamlet of Harambeltz (4 km before Ostabat).
Every evening, we offer a communal dinner, in keeping with the true tradition of pilgrim hospitality.
Since 2026, the gite has been managed as a non-profit association (French Law 1901); you will be welcomed by a permanent host, Marie, and a team of dedicated volunteers.
In the middle ages, the Harambeltz hamlet housed an important priory hospital for pilgrims. Now only the chapel remains, and it is situated at a stone’s throw from our gite.
The gite perpetuates the traditional hospitality of the hamlet.
In love with the Camino, my vocation as a host grew while I walked the Way. By welcoming you, I wish to pass on a part of what the Camino has given to me....
Welcoming a person enlarges the heart of both.
Etchetoa is a non-profit association dedicated to keeping the spirit of the Way alive in the heart of the Basque Country. Its work is built around three commitments:
Pilgrim hospitality — we carry on a tradition of selfless welcome in service of pilgrims. Beyond shelter and a meal, we offer a place for exchange and shared moments.
A place of respite — we aim to offer a restorative pause for young people facing psychological difficulties. To this end, we are working to obtain accreditation as a Lieu de Vie et d'Accueil (Living and Welcome Centre) in order to host respite stays in partnership with French Child Welfare Services (Aide Sociale à l'Enfance).
Cultural outreach — the association hosts lecture series, performances and themed gatherings. These events build a living bridge between the centuries-old pilgrim route and Basque identity.
Annual membership €5 — direct support for the house and its programme.
